The L.A. Musical History Tour
Oki Dog (former location)
Santa Monica and Vista, Hollywood
Now closed, the "Home of the Oki Dog" (a flour tortilla wrapped
around two hot dogs and
filled with chili and cheese) was a thorn in the neighborhood's side because
of its
popularity among punk rockers during the early 1980s. The restaurant didn't
discourage
lolling by mohawked teenage boys wearing kilts, and managed to eke out a
business until it
closed in 1989, long after punk rock had crested.
A famed Germs "live" LP ends with the lead singer Darby Crash
hollering, "Let's all go to
Oki Dog!"
